Paris’s elegant parks and
gardens are the focus of this new tour, the
format of which is similar to last year’s
successful in-depth tour of London. Each
day we will visit a selection of fascinating
green spaces, while also taking in some of the
city’s best markets, churches, cemeteries, and
historic monuments. The famous chateau
gardens at Versailles, Vaux-le-Vicomte, and
Courances feature, as do cutting edge
contemporary parks, such as Parc André Citroën
and Parc de la Villette, and a handful of
exclusive private gardens. But we
also get off the beaten track and explore some
of the capital’s lesser known gems, like the
Promenade Plantée, the almost three mile long,
part-elevated linear park, which served as a
model for New York’s celebrated High Line
project; UNESCO’s Garden of Peace or Japanese
Garden, designed by the sculptor Isamu Noguchi;
and the superb museum gardens at Musée Rodin,
Musée Carnavalet, Musée Albert Kahn, and Musée
du Quai Branly, with its dramatic green wall.
Other highlights include visits to historic
Parc des Buttes Chaumont, Parc Monceau,
and La Cimetière du Père-Lachaise, the city’s
most prestigious cemetery,
and time at some of Paris’s specialist flower,
book, and flea markets. Based
in one hotel for all nine nights, this tour will
give participants the opportunity to explore
in depth
Paris’s many distinct neighborhoods and to gain
a uniquely intimate view of a side of the city
that visitors rarely see.
Space on this tour
is limited to just twelve participants.
Participants must be fit and able to walk
unaided for long periods as most of the
sightseeing will be on foot, with use of the
Metro and RER public transport system to get
around the city. A private bus/van will be
used to to get to the more out of the way
places.
Participants will
receive a detailed itinerary closer to
departure.
