London’s private gardens
and lesser known green spaces are the focus of this new
tour, which also includes a day at the annual Chelsea Flower
Show, the most glamorous and prestigious event in the
horticultural calendar. Each day we will visit a selection
of exclusive private gardens, ranging from traditional
formal gems to elegant contemporary designs, from stylish
city havens to luxuriant rooftop oases. We will also
search out some of the capital’s less visited public
gardens, courtyards, squares, and parks -- hidden green
spaces in the heart of the city that few tourists know about
and fewer still visit. Highlights include a secluded
cloister garden, a recreated period garden attached to a
museum, an award-winning riverside park, and a stunning
Islamic-style roof garden. In fact, the gardens that we
will see are as varied and
interesting as cosmopolitan London itself. Based in one
hotel throughout, the tour will give participants a uniquely
intimate view of a side of London that visitors rarely see.
Many of the gardens are private and can only be visited by
special arrangement. Out of respect for the owners’
privacy, and because the order of visits may change, participants will receive a detailed itinerary
closer to departure.
